Streamlining dashboards for clearer insights at a leading Belgian bank

Sven Van Hoorebeeck

In today’s banking environment, data is essential, but only when it's accessible, reliable, and actionable. A leading Belgian bank partnered with BrightWolves to address a growing challenge: a fragmented landscape of manual and automated dashboards, resulting in duplicated reporting, inconsistent data, and limited visibility. The goal was clear—streamline the dashboarding ecosystem and embed a more collaborative, insight-driven way of working across teams.

Challenge

The bank’s dashboard ecosystem had grown organically over time, creating inefficiencies and disconnects that hindered strategic decision-making. Product owners spent more time maintaining dashboards than using them. Access governance was unclear, with the same metrics reported in multiple places. Despite being data-rich, reports lacked clarity—making it difficult to connect insights across products or align on priorities. These issues highlighted the need for a streamlined, standardized, and collaborative approach to reporting.

Dashboards shouldn’t just report data—they should spark action. By simplifying tools and involving users early, we’re helping this bank move from data overload to insight-driven decisions.

Approach

To transform dashboarding into a true enabler of insight, BrightWolves led a structured rationalization process:

1. Dashboard inventory & AS-IS analysis
We catalogued all dashboards, assessing their purpose, users, and data sources to gain a full picture of the current reporting landscape.

2. Identifying overlaps
We mapped redundancies and identified dashboards reporting the same metrics across silos—paving the way for consolidation.

3. Engaging product owners
Through workshops, we uncovered real needs: whether automation, filter improvements, or better usability. These sessions also built alignment and encouraged cross-team collaboration.

4. Integrated roadmap development
We built a clear development plan, detailing how dashboards would be consolidated, automated, and prioritized—putting user needs at the center.

5. Fostering a data-driven culture
Beyond dashboards, we promoted advanced analytics—like churn prediction models—to help teams see the broader impact of data-driven decision-making.

Throughout, we adhered to three principles:

  • Design for decisions, not just data

  • Involve users at every step

  • Treat dashboards as living tools that evolve over time

Impact

Though still in progress, the transformation is already reshaping how data is used across the bank. The number of dashboards is expected to drop by 80%, eliminating redundancies and improving clarity. Product owners will recover up to 7 working days per month—freeing them to focus on strategic analysis instead of manual updates. By consolidating into integrated, user-driven dashboards, the bank is building a more cohesive view of its card products, empowering faster decisions and uncovering connections across teams.

Summary

  • Rationalized and mapped 100+ dashboards across teams

  • Identified overlaps and aligned dashboards to business needs

  • Developed a user-centric roadmap for automation and redesign

  • Introduced advanced analytics to boost data-driven decision-making

  • Expected 80% reduction in dashboards and 7 days saved per month per team
